PROSPECT AND FUTURE OF ANESTHESIA

Abstract

|
Brief history of early development of Korean modern anesthesia was described. In this time, doctors started anesthesia with hope. Korean Society of Anesthesiologists was formed in 1956 and Board examination for specialist anesthesiologist started in 1963.
Since this examination, annual increase of qualified anesthesiologists has been only about ten which was far less number than that was required in Korea. At present there find 41 specialist anesthesiologists in Korea.
The reason of shortage of personnel in anesthesia field was described. The way of recruiting young doctors into this field is not easy but it must be established. The activity of anesthesiologists is greatly expanding. The importance of anesthesiology has been recognized.
The development of anesthesia in Korea has been slow but the bright future is prospected.
